SLOVENES AND HORSEMANSHIP

SLOVENIA IS A NATIVE SOIL OF THE IMPERIAL WHITE LIPIZZANER HORSES WHICH WERE  PRIMARY BREED FOR THE IMPERIAL COURT IN VIENNA – SPANISH RIDING SCHOOL – FROM THE 16TH CENTURY.

By the 16th century, when the Habsburgs ruled both Spain and Austria, a powerful but agile horse was desired for both military uses and for (fancy) use in the fashionable and rapidly-growing riding schools for the nobility of central Europe.
Habsburg archduke Rudolf II. Had a vision o creating a perfect horse, consenqently the Lipizzaner was born. He brought  ANDALUSIAN HORSES FROM SPAIN AND COUPLED THEM WITH LOCAL KARST BREED WHICH ROMANS USED FOR PULLING CHARIOTS. The local karst breed was also very highly esteemed through the midlle ages as tournament, batlle and working horse. Arabian bloodline was added later.
